About the author
David Penney has been a competitive powerlifter for the past seven years, having taken up the sport as a Masters lifter at the age of 48. He has competed in approximately twenty charity, club and sanctioned competitions, both regionally and nationally and has placed second in the British Bench Press Championships twice (2020 and 2021). He is also a Level 1 qualified British Powerlifting coach.

David is also the author of Escape the Fat Trap: It’s not rocket science! (Siri Scientific Press, 2017), which is essentially a guide to fat loss using powerlifting as the main modus of training.

He has two Doctorates in science (PhD and DSc) and is married with three children and one cat. He lives in Rochdale, Greater Manchester and can usually be found training at Evolution Gym during the early morning shift as soon as the doors open at 06:00 am.
